Previously a Village Inn restaurant, this dated, vacant space was completely transformed into a fully customized eye care facility. The client envisioned a warm, modern clinic that blended rustic charm with functional efficiency—one that felt as inviting as it was operational. From retail display to patient flow, every square foot was reimagined with thoughtful purpose. Our design team collaborated closely with the client and architect to create a one-of-a-kind, mountain-inspired healthcare environment that patients and staff genuinely enjoy.
To house the client’s large inventory of eyewear, we designed custom floating wood-and-metal shelving systems that preserved natural light while maximizing wall space. Below, concealed drawer storage added sleek functionality without visual clutter.
We designed a show-stopping reception desk that not only welcomes guests but also houses key admin functions—eliminating the need for a second back-office zone. Additional cabinetry and file storage were seamlessly built into the design.
Reclaimed wood, faux concrete, brushed quartz, and custom slatted millwork brought texture and warmth into the space—subtly referencing the client’s love of the mountains while honoring their Midwestern roots.
The final layout incorporated exam rooms, optical retail, offices, restrooms, and a tech station—all with flow, privacy, and accessibility in mind. Careful zoning ensured patient comfort while allowing staff to work with ease and efficiency.
One of the client’s top requests was to display at least 900 eyeglass frames. We used a combination of tiered shelving, integrated drawers, and vertical storage walls—optimizing height and visual merchandising without sacrificing light.
With outdated finishes and kitchen appliances still intact, we started by gutting the entire structure. Then, using a clean-slate approach, we created ten unique functional zones, including HIPAA-compliant exam and storage areas.
To increase seating capacity and provide social distancing, we designed a custom bench that wrapped two walls. This allowed more guests to be accommodated comfortably without crowding the entrance.
To draw the eye directly to the retail zone, we installed a floor-to-ceiling slatted wood feature wall that continues across the ceiling. This striking architectural detail immediately anchors the space and enhances navigation.
